Allergy Relief

2 minutes, 24 seconds Read

I just heard on the radio that this year those with allergies are suffering more than usual due to the weather conditions across the country. One of the suggestions for relief was to stay indoors! That did not sound like a fun summer to me! In upstate NY summer is short and we like to enjoy every minute of it~ outdoors!

I was at a friend’s house recently and her daughter awoke with puffy eyes and said, “Can I have an allergy pill?” Although this can give temporary relief it is not getting to the root of the problem and is really only masking a symptom instead of giving the body what it needs to heal itself. And you are only giving yourself further undesirable side effects with the allergy pill.

Allergies are the body’s way of saying “I have had more than enough exposure to this.” And this response has gone into overdrive. So what can a person do to get the body back to balance?

There are many natural ways to relieve allergy symptoms; One way to is take 1,000 mg of Vitamin C with Bioflavnoids twice daily. You need to take it morning and night because it is water soluble, which means it does not stay in your body to be used later. So if you only take it once per day you will leave yourself deficient the other half of the time. Children can take chewable vitamin C. When my son was little (age 4-5) I would let him take as many as he felt he needed. Children are more instinctive than we are, so some days he chew 4-5, other days only 2-3. This helped him within a few days be relieved of his allergy symptoms. For some relief may take a little longer, but remember you are healing the body not just masking a symptom, so do not give up too soon. Keep going for at least 2 weeks.

Another simple thing you can do is apply 1-2 drops of  Young Living Lavender essential oil to your temples and then a few drops on the bottom of your feet. Lavender is a natural anti-histamine. Many people notice an improvement with just a few applications. Eventually the body balances itself and you may only need to do this on occasion instead of daily. Young Living Roman Chamomile also works as effectively used this way. And others choose to swab their nostrils with a little Purification Essential Oil blend.

If you feel you need relief from itchy skin or have multiple allergies you can also choose to put 5-6 drops of Lavender or Roman Chamomile in a capsule and take it internally. The oils are effective in every way you use them; topically, internally and diffusing in the air using a cold air diffuser.

Try these simple methods and enjoy your time outdoors this summer!!
